No Sleep Until June is the name of this environmentally sound fashion label...
I recently shot their new lookbook and what drew me to this label, apart from the rad designs, was their devotion to producing a mens label that is 100% sustainable. I had a little sit down with Ida Nyborg, who is the Owner/Designer, to get the full story behind the label...
Starting a label is something I wanted to do since as long as I can remember, being a designer was kind of it for me. I've always been more interested in mens clothing rather than womens, as I feel that I could create design with a objective eye. So when I took my degree in fashion design and pattern making at Esmod Oslo it was natural for me to specialise in menswear.
For me, the start of 'No sleep until June' happened when I was a finalist in a design competition for Oslo Fashion Week. The summer of preparing for this collection was hectic. Myself and my friend Nanette endured many sleepless nights, where the nights and days blended together. We often joked that there would be no sleep until june, it was there the tone and direction of this label was born.
Use of Norwegian materials was the main criteria for the competition, it opened my eyes to designing products as sustainable as possible. I began to experiment with organic materials including hemp, organic cotton and bamboo and even though it was a challenge, it was interesting working with both local and organic fabrics which became the philosophy of my label. Obviously it's not easy to do everything 100% right in the beginning, and there is a lot more to being sustainable than to just use organic fabrics, you have to think about the whole process and the people involved in it too. I want to be honest about what we do and what we want to achieve in the future.
It's pretty random what inspires me as a designer, but I always look elsewhere than the fashion industry for inspiration. Often music, a feeling, print, texture, people, and the combination between nature and the city are things I find inspires me the most.
Also big thanks to model Sammy Snow.
